Sparrow Installation Services were appointed to install a 3m diameter hot tub weighing approximately 600kg at a residential property in Bristol. Due to overhead high-voltage power lines, restricted access and insufficient space for a crane, the team developed an alternative installation method using tracked carriers, mobile gantries, chain blocks and lifting slings.
The hot tub was transported along the side of the property, moved down a steep slope and across wet grass, then manoeuvred through double doors before being lifted and lowered into its final position inside the property.
Alternative lifting plan
The Challenge
The hot tub needed to be installed behind a residential property where crane access was not possible. Overhead high-voltage power lines, limited working space, a steep slope and wet, slippery grass meant the installation required a carefully planned alternative lifting and movement method.
The team also needed to manoeuvre the 600kg hot tub through double doors and lower it accurately into its final position without causing damage to the hot tub, the property or the surrounding area.
Our Approach
The Solution
The hot tub was first secured within its transport frame and moved around the side of the property using remote-controlled tracked carriers. Due to the bend in the access route, two tracked carriers were used to allow a smooth transfer from one carrier to the other, reducing the risk of damage to the hot tub or the property.
Once positioned near the entrance, the hot tub was manually lowered safely onto the ground and carefully manoeuvred through the double doors. Inside the property, the team assembled a mobile gantry system and used two chain blocks with lifting slings to raise, control and lower the hot tub into its final position.
