Crane Free Swim Spa Installation

With overhead cables and a busy road restricting access, the team used a portable gantry and chain blocks as a controlled alternative to crane lifting.

Tracked Carrier Garden Access

Once lifted from the trailer, the swim spa was placed onto a remote controlled tracked carrier and carefully moved through the side access to the rear garden.

Sparrow Installation Services completed a specialist swim spa installation at a residential property in Bristol, moving the spa from its delivery trailer through to its final position in the back garden.

The project required a careful alternative to crane lifting, as the road remained in constant use and overhead power and BT cables made a crane unsuitable. Instead, the team used a portable gantry, chain blocks and a remote controlled tracked carrier to complete the lift and shift safely, without the need for a road closure.

The Challenge

The customer needed a swim spa lifted from transport and installed in its final position at the rear of the property. A crane was not suitable due to the constant use of the road, the lack of a road closure and the presence of overhead power and BT cables, which would have made the lift extremely difficult.

Our Approach

Sparrow Installation Services developed a manual handling and lifting method using a portable gantry. Once erected at working height, the gantry remained within a safe working distance of the overhead cables while also keeping the footprint smaller than the crane that would otherwise have been required. This helped keep the road open and reduced disruption to residents.

The Solution

Using the portable gantry and chain blocks, the team raised the swim spa from the delivery trailer. The vehicle and trailer were then removed, allowing the spa to be landed onto a remote controlled tracked carrier. From there, it was driven into the rear garden through the side access before the gantry was set up again to lower the swim spa into its final position.

The Result

The 1.6 tonne swim spa was successfully moved from the roadside delivery trailer to the back garden and installed in its final position in one day. The method avoided the need for a road closure and provided a practical solution where crane access was restricted.
